The study identifies a novel aac(6′)-Ib 11 gene encoding an extended-spectrum aminoglycoside 6′-N-acetyltransferase that confers resistance to amikacin and gentamicin. The gene was found to have unique amino acid substitutions at positions 118 and 119, leading to increased resistance levels.
