Overview
Genetic characterization of optochin-susceptible viridans group streptococci.
The study identifies the genetic basis for optochin susceptibility in viridans group streptococci, showing that the atpC and atpA genes from Streptococcus pneumoniae contribute to optochin susceptibility in Streptococcus mitis.
Characterization of in vitro-generated and clinical optochin-resistant strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae isolated from Argentina.
The study identifies mutations in the atpC and atpA genes of Streptococcus pneumoniae that confer optochin resistance. Specifically, G47V in atpC and W206C in atpA were found to be responsible for optochin resistance in clinical and in vitro-generated strains.
