The study identifies a novel chromosomally encoded extended-spectrum class A beta-lactamase, RAHN-1, from Rahnella aquatilis, which confers resistance to various beta-lactam antibiotics including cefoxitin, cephalothin, cefuroxime, cefepime, ceftriaxone, cefotaxime, piperacillin, and ticarcillin.
