Emerging patterns of plasmid-host coevolution that stabilize antibiotic resistance.
The study identifies mutations in the replication protein gene trfA and a mutation in the host's global transcriptional regulator gene fur that contribute to plasmid persistence. Additionally, the acquisition of a transposon from a co-residing plasmid encoding a putative toxin-antitoxin system was found to enhance plasmid persistence.
Helicobacter pylori genetic diversification in the Mongolian gerbil model.
The study identified a FurR88H mutation in H. pylori strains that conferred a survival advantage in a neutrophil-containing environment, along with other genetic changes in genes related to iron acquisition and outer membrane proteins.
