Key Findings
The study identified and characterized the chromosomally encoded beta-lactamase genes blaOXY-2a and blaOXY-1a in Klebsiella oxytoca isolates, which confer resistance to aztreonam and cefuroxime. The blaOXY-2a gene was found to be responsible for the resistance phenotype through overproduction due to a mutation in the promoter region.
