Key Findings

The study evaluated the accuracy of cefoxitin disk testing and oxacillin-salt agar screening (MHOX) for detecting oxacillin resistance mediated by the mecA gene in coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS). The mecA gene, encoding penicillin-binding protein 2a, was found to confer oxacillin resistance in various CoNS species.
